Day 1:
Transfer to Marrakech
Meals Included: Dinner Today is your arrival day! You will be greeted at the airport and transferred directly to your hotel accommodations in Marrakech. Nothing is planned for today, so you will have a chance to unwind by the pool and recover from your jet lag. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner so that you can meet the other people in the group.
Day 2:
Marrakech
Meals Included: Breakfast No driving today, either! Instead, you will spend the day with a local city guide who will show you the sights and sounds of Marrakech. Marrakech also called the Red City because of the pink walls of the Medina, served as the capital city during the rule of the Saadian Dynasty who ruled Morocco from 1554 to 1659. Your tour will include visits to the old Ben Youssef Madrasa, El Badi Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the beautiful Koutoubia Mosque. After you’ve visited these monuments, your guide will escort you to the souks of Marrakech to see how artisans still use traditional methods for their handicrafts today. The tour will end in Jemaa El Fna, the busiest square in all of Africa, where you can watch the sun set over Marrakech and watch the square come to life. You will have some free time here to truly experience the sights, sounds and even smells of Marrakech. You can have dinner at one of the many food stalls that pop up after dark or at a restaurant in the medina, before meeting back up with the group to head back to your hotel for the night.
Day 3:
Marrakech to Agdz
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner After breakfast today, you will continue your Morocco Group Tour as you travel over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, reaching an altitude of nearly 7500 feet above sea level. They say that life is about the journey and not the destination and this is certainly true when you are on this road. There will be plenty of stops for tea and photographs as you take in the breathtaking vistas before arriving in Ouarzazate. Here, in the city known as the Gateway to the Sahara and
famous for its film studios, you will break for lunch. After lunch, you will visit the former palace of the Glaoui clan, Kasbah Taourirt. An optional back lot tour of one of the film studios will also be available. After you finish your visit of Ouarzazate, you will make the drive to the heart of the Draa Valley to the city of Agdz. Here, you will check into your authentic kasbah for the night. Once you’ve settled in, you will have a guided tour of Kasbah Tamnougalt and take a short walk in the lush palmeraie before returning to your
Kasbah for a delicious dinner.
Day 4:
Agdz to Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner After breakfast, you will continue to travel through the Draa Valley towards the dunes of the Sahara desert, stopping along the way to visit Rissani, the last city of size before the dunes. Since this day happens to be one of the open market days, you’ll get to experience a slice of everyday Moroccan life: the hustle and bustle of people buying and selling goods for the week. After visiting the market, you will visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alawite Dynasty (the current ruling family of Morocco) before continuing on. Once you reach the edge of the dunes, you will transfer to your next mode of travel: a camel. The camel will take you to your Berber camp in the heart of the dunes. Once there, you can climb the nearest dune to watch the sunset and watch the stars come out. Dinner will be served at camp followed by more stargazing as you immerse yourself in the magic of the desert.
Day 5:
Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) to Kelaat M’Gouna
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner Today your camel guide will wake you early so that you can watch the sunrise over the dunes. Afterward, you will once again take to your ship of the desert (i.e. your camel) and trek back to the kasbah on the edge of the sand sea where breakfast will be served and you will have an opportunity to shower and prepare for the day. After breakfast, you will head towards the Valley of Roses. Along the way, you will make a stop to visit the ancient irrigation system, have a guided walk of the palmeraie and old Mellah (Jewish neighborhood) of Tinghir, and stroll through the narrow section of Todgha Gorge. When you arrive in Kelaat M’Gouna, you will make your way along the Road of 1000 Kasbahs to your own personal hilltop Kasbah for the night where you will enjoy sweeping views of the valley and a delicious dinner.
Day 6:
Kelaat M’Gouna to Marrakech
Meals Included: Breakfast Today is the last full day of your 7 day Morocco group tour and following breakfast, you will depart from your hotel and make your way back to Marrakech.
You’ll take a slightly different route and stop along the way to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou located just outside of Ouarzazate. If this impressive ksar looks familiar, it is because it has started (or at least made an appearance) in many movies and TV shows including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones.
After exploring and having lunch, you will travel once again over the High Atlas Mountains arriving back to your hotel in Marrakech in time for dinner.
Day 7:
Transfer to Airport
Meals Included: Breakfast Today you will be free to relax until it is time to make the drive to the airport where you will say au revoir to Morocco… until your next visit!
