Get a kick out of climbing the highest mountain in Northern Africa.
The Mount Toubkal with 4,167m is the highest mountain in North Africa.
The hike to the summit is challenging when it’s done in 2 days, but it requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from the summit makes the hard work worthwhile.
Reach the summit and be back within 2 days with time still to explore Morocco’s most captivating city: Marrakech.
Day 1 –
Arrival in Marrakech. Transfer from Marrakech to Imlil.
After arrival in Marrakech, you will be transferred to the little village of Imlil. Here you will be able to explore the area and you will spend the night in a local gite. Local gite or tents in Imlil.
Day 2 –
Walk from Imlil to the Toubkal Refuge
The second day we’ll begin our trek. Heading along the Mizane Valley, we first pass the village of Aremd and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We then continue east and by crossing the floodplains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. Crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, zigzagging its way up to the snowline and the Toubkal Refuge (3206m), our stop for the night. Toubkal Refuge.
Day 3 –
Summit Toubkal and walk back down to the Toubkal Refuge.
Early in the morning, we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the sloping altitude will make the march quite difficult in parts. Despite this, the views along the way will make the journey more than worthy. When you reach the summit you will see that the breathtaking vistas across the surrounding area, from the Marrakech Plain to the High Atlas in the North and as far South as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down the mountain and head back towards Imlil. Toubkal Refuge
Day 4 –
Walk back to Imlil and transfer back to Marrakech. Enjoy the rest of the day in Marrakech.
We’ll have a gentle walk back to Imlil, perhaps improvising and visiting some of the neighbor Beber villages on the way. After this, you will be transferred to your Riad in Marrakech, where you will have time to enjoy this wonderful city and visit the magical Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Riad in Marrakech
Day 5 –
Departure from Marrakech
Spending the last hours in Marrakech before your departure flight back home. Transfer to the airport.
